Party henna is henna booked for a group occasion, such as a mehndi night, Eid or Diwali gathering, a baby shower, birthday or hen do, rather than for a single bride. It is priced by the hour rather than by the person, because how many guests get a design done in an evening depends on how long each design takes, not a fixed headcount. Piya brings the paste, a design book and a mat to sit on, and travels to homes and halls across Reading, Reading and the surrounding area.

What counts as party or event henna?
Any group occasion where more than one person wants henna done in the same visit. That covers mehndi nights, Eid, Diwali, Karva Chauth, baby showers, birthdays, hen dos, school fetes and corporate events. If you are unsure whether your occasion counts, it almost certainly does: the booking works the same way whatever the reason for the gathering.
How is party henna priced?
Party bookings are quoted by the hour, with a minimum booking length, rather than a fixed price for the whole event. A single guest wanting a small finger or wrist design outside of a full booking can also be priced separately, per person.

How many guests can you fit into an hour?
There is no fixed number, because the honest answer depends on what each guest wants, not on the clock alone. A small finger or wrist motif takes only a few minutes, so a group all choosing quick, simple designs gets through far more guests in an hour than a group where everyone wants a fuller hand-and-wrist pattern. This is exactly why party henna is quoted by the hour rather than as a flat per-guest rate: a two-hour booking for forty guests wanting simple designs and a two-hour booking for fifteen guests wanting fuller ones cost the same amount of booked time, even though the guest count is very different.

How far ahead should I book?
A fortnight is usually enough notice for a party or event booking. The exception is Eid, Diwali and Karva Chauth: those dates book out weeks ahead because everybody wants the same one or two evenings, so get in touch early if your event falls near one of them. If you are also planning your own bridal mehndi, the two bookings are usually arranged together in the same conversation.
What should mehndi party guests wear?
Something you do not mind getting a little paste on. Wet henna can transfer to loose sleeves and hems, so three-quarter or short sleeves are easier to manage than long, fitted ones. It helps to plan seating so guests can rest their hands still while the paste dries, and to serve food and drink before or after each turn rather than during it, since wet paste does not grip a fork or a cup.
Do I need to be South Asian or Muslim to book henna for a party?
No. Henna is booked for hen dos, birthdays, baby showers and school and corporate events by people of every background, and there is no faith or heritage requirement to enjoy having it done. If you are planning a non-specialist event, say so when you book, and Piya will suggest simple floral or geometric designs that suit the occasion rather than assuming a bridal or religious pattern.
Is henna safe for guests and children?
The paste Piya uses contains Natural henna powder, lemon juice, henna sugar, cajeput essential oil, lavender essential oil and nothing else. Real henna paste goes on olive green and stains gradually over about 48 hours. If a paste goes on black, or stains black within the hour, it is not henna: it contains PPD, and it should not go anywhere near a child or anyone else at your event.
